Does SIZE matter?

IS SIZE IMPORTANT?

Super Tiny Size AKA "Teacup sized"

Since we all know that the word "teacup" is an adjective or name given by some breeders to describe an extra small dog let's not get all pushed if some breeders call their super tinies "teacup sized". Most everyone nowadays has seen or heard of a teacup sized dog. Now we have these puritans wanting to harp on the fact that AKC/CKC/ACA/ABCDEFF doesn't have a seperate catagory for the smaller dogs in the breed versus the bigger dogs within the same breed. Most everyone who calls me wanting a "teacup" sized dog really is wanting something a bit  bigger but I do have the occasional person wanting the "teacup" sized baby.  AKC/CKC and other registries do not have a "universal standard" size wise.  Chihuahua's are like people, some are bigger and some tend to be smaller. So, when asking for a super small puppy remember that the smaller they are the more care that is required. The Official A.K.C. Breed Standard describes the Chihuahua as a small dog that comes in two varieties or coat types. The difference in coat type (the Long Coat and the Smooth Coat) is the only official description used to identify a difference within this breed. Our standard does not categorize the Chihuahua by size.

Each of us breeders have what we know & agree that a really small sized dog should be 4 lbs or less at full maturity.

As with all living things, there will be size variance between individual dogs within this breed. Look within the human family - brothers and sisters will differ in height and in weight, as well as other physical attributes. They are described as humans, male or female, and there is seldom if ever a need to break the description down further. The same holds true in regard to the Chihuahua; they are Chihuahuas - Long Coat/Smooth Coat!

Teacups are not suitble for everyone’s lifestyle. In most cases someone (like you perhaps) wanting to purchase  a teacup really wants a tiny 4-5 lb dog. All the dogs on this site is bred for AKC/CKC standards. We aren't in the business of making super tiny dogs. They are A lot more work and we have to worry about them every second of every day.

Toy sized babies will fit nicely in your lap or in those ever popular little front carriers.

When they are full grown the toy size will not require the extra care a "teacup" puppy requires. Super Tiny's/Teacups can burn up their energy reserves extremely quickly.  (They don’t have a lot of meat in which to hold their sugars.)

Super Tiny's/Teacups have to eat frequently throughout the day and be monitored to make sure that they are actually eating every 2 hours.

If you do not monitor them they can end up with hypoglycemia. Super tiny ones do require frequent meals, and lots of rest.. They make excellent pets  for anyone who has all day, everyday to spend with their super tiny babies.

***Just for your information. We all BREED FOR TOY SIZED DOGS. We are NOT BREEDING FOR Teacup sizes. We all BREED our DOGS TO STAY WITHIN THE BREED STANDARD. WHEN we DO GET THE OCCASIONAL TINY, THEY HAVE TO STAY WITH us UNTIL THEY ARE AT LEAST ONE POUND OR MORE. We WOULD NEVER WANT A LITTLE ONE TO GO OUT TOO SMALL AND GET STRESSED OUT. We LOVE ALL our DOGS AND so we GET TO DECIDE WHEN THEY ARE READY FOR THEIR NEW HOMES.***

Pricing- The reason that Teacup sized Chihuahua's are MORE expensive is because we breeders charge more because truly healthy tinies are harder to produce & require a lot of experience from a seasoned breeder. A good breeder knows how to give their puppies extra care 24/7. We are not out to gouge you for extra money just because of their size. THEY TAKE A LOT MORE WORK. MORE WORK, MORE TIME, MORE MONEY. WHEN YOU PUT IN OVERTIME AT YOUR JOB YOU GET PAID MORE, WE FEEL THAT WE SHOULD TOO.

Even if the mommies are great mommies, These tiny ones need extra care, heat, & supplemental feedings.

We are thinking about the super tiny one 24 hours a day 7 days a week and must plan our lives,

outings and sleep around keeping your new puppy healthy.

A truly dedicated and reputable breeder rarely makes a living. We do this for the love of the dogs.

We consider the needs of the puppy only and sell our labors of love only to pre-screened homes.

Just because you have the money doesn’t mean you get one of our dogs.

We have to know that our dogs will flourish in your environment.

**Super small sized/TEACUP dogs ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HOMES WITH SMALL CHILDREN, OTHER PETS, AND BUSY OR ACTIVE LIFESTYLE.
